Holt JCB Welcomes the Future of Sustainable Construction with the New JCB 3CX Hydrogen Backhoe Loader
We are proud to support the next generation of construction innovation following the official unveiling of the revolutionary JCB 3CX Hydrogen Backhoe Loader!

At Holt JCB, we are proud to support the next generation of construction innovation following the official unveiling of the revolutionary JCB 3CX Hydrogen Backhoe Loader at the recent international press launch held at JCB World Headquarters, Rocester, Staffordshire.
As the appointed JCB dealer for the South West of England and South Wales, Holt JCB is excited to introduce customers to what is set to become one of the most significant developments in construction equipment technology for decades; a machine that delivers the trusted performance of the world’s leading backhoe loader, powered by zero-carbon hydrogen combustion technology.

A Landmark Moment for the Construction Industry
JCB has once again demonstrated why it remains a global leader in construction equipment innovation. The launch of the production ready JCB 3CX Hydrogen marks a major milestone in the industry’s transition toward sustainable machinery solutions without compromising the power, productivity and versatility customers rely on every day.
Powered by JCB’s purpose-built 55kW hydrogen combustion engine, the new JCB 3CX Hydrogen offers the same performance characteristics as its diesel equivalent, delivering identical power, torque and operational capability while producing zero carbon emissions at the point of use.
This JCB machine has been developed following more than £100 million of investment by JCB into hydrogen technology and has already achieved full EU Type Approval for use in non-road mobile machinery.

Lord Bamford on Hydrogen Innovation
JCB Chairman Lord Bamford, who has championed the hydrogen project from the very beginning, said:
“The unique combustion properties of hydrogen enable the hydrogen engine to deliver the same power, the same torque, and the same efficiency that powers JCB machines today, but in a zero-carbon way.”
He continued:
“Hydrogen combustion engines also offer other significant benefits. By leveraging diesel engine technology and components, they do not require rare earth elements and critically, combustion technology is already well proven on construction and agricultural equipment. It is a technology which is cost effective, robust, reliable and well known throughout not just the construction and agricultural industry, but the whole world.”
Lord Bamford’s comments reinforce JCB’s commitment to delivering practical, real-world sustainable solutions for customers operating in demanding environments.

Real-World Performance Without Compromise
During extensive customer trials across a range of working applications, operators reported that the hydrogen powered JCB 3CX performed exactly like a conventional diesel machine.
From truck loading and pallet handling to grading and excavation work, this JCB delivers the productivity and familiar operation that contractors expect from a JCB backhoe loader.
Key benefits of the new JCB 3CX Hydrogen include:
· Zero-carbon hydrogen combustion technology
· Same power and torque as diesel models
· Rapid on-site refuelling capability
· No lengthy charging downtime
· Familiar operation for operators
· Similar service and maintenance intervals
· All-day operating capability
The JCB 3CX Hydrogen features three advanced hydrogen storage tanks mounted on the cab roof, allowing for full-day operation in demanding site conditions.
